Bali Day Trips with a Private Driver: 6 Itineraries, Prices & Booking Tips

Short answer: a private car with driver in Bali costs roughly IDR 650,000–950,000 for 10–12 hours in an Avanza, Xpander or Innova, usually including fuel. It’s the easiest way to see temples, rice terraces and waterfalls without fighting traffic or parking. Below are six itineraries that fit comfortably in one day — the order matters more than people think.

Bali’s sights are spread out, and traffic makes everything slower than Google Maps promises. A good driver knows when Tegallalang gets crowded, which temples rent sarongs, where to park at Uluwatu and how to dodge the Kerobokan jam. These routes are built around that local timing.

1. Ubud classic

Tegallalang rice terraces (8:00, before the crowds) → Tirta Empul water temple → coffee plantation stop → lunch in Ubud → Sacred Monkey Forest → Ubud Palace and market. Easy, central and perfect for a first day. From Canggu or Seminyak, leave by 7:00. See Tegallalang.

2. Kintamani and Mount Batur

Tegenungan waterfall (early) → Tegallalang → lunch with a view of Mount Batur and its lake at Kintamani → hot springs at Toya Bungkah (optional) → back via Penelokan. Bring a jacket; it’s cooler up there. For the sunrise trek itself see Mount Batur sunrise.

3. Jatiluwih, Bedugul and waterfalls

Jatiluwih UNESCO terraces → Ulun Danu Beratan lake temple → Handara gate → Banyumala twin waterfalls → back south, or end at Tanah Lot for sunset. The longest day on this list. See Jatiluwih and Munduk & North Bali.

4. East Bali: Gates of Heaven

Leave at 5:00–6:00 → Lempuyang Temple → Tirta Gangga water palace → Taman Ujung → Virgin Beach or Candidasa lunch → home. It’s 10–12 hours with lots of driving; many drivers charge a small East Bali surcharge. Consider staying overnight instead — see East Bali road trip.

5. Uluwatu and the southern beaches

Late start (11:00) → Padang Padang, Melasti or Nyang Nyang beaches → GWK cultural park → Uluwatu Temple and the Kecak fire dance at sunset → seafood dinner in Jimbaran. See Uluwatu beaches.

6. Tanah Lot and West Bali temples

Taman Ayun royal temple in Mengwi → Jatiluwih or Alas Kedaton monkey forest → Pura Batu Bolong → Tanah Lot at sunset. Ideal if you’re staying in Canggu, Seminyak or Kuta. See Tanah Lot.

Tips for a great day

  • Start early. Sites are emptier and cooler before 10 am.
  • Don’t over-pack the day. Four or five stops is plenty; driving between them takes time.
  • Tell the driver what you like — photos, food, temples, swimming — and let them adjust the order.
  • Carry cash for tickets, sarongs and warungs.
  • Tip if you were happy: IDR 50k–100k is appreciated.
