Uluwatu Beaches by Scooter: A One-Day Beach-Hopping Loop

The Bukit Peninsula around Uluwatu has some of Bali’s most beautiful beaches, tucked under limestone cliffs. They’re spread out and hilly, which makes a scooter the perfect way to hop between them. Here’s a loop you can do in one day.
The loop (east to west)
1. Melasti
A dramatic road cut into the cliff leads down to white sand and clear water. Arrive early for calm water and fewer people.
2. Green Bowl or Nyang Nyang (optional)
Quieter beaches with lots of steps. Worth it if you want space — just be ready for the climb back up.
3. Dreamland
Wide, easy-access beach with sunbeds and waves. Good for lunch.
4. Bingin
A cliffside village of warungs and stairs leading to a surf beach. Great for a coffee with a view.
5. Padang Padang
A small, photogenic cove reached through a gap in the rocks. Busy in the middle of the day.
6. Suluban (Blue Point)
Caves and a surf break below the famous cliff-top bars. Best at low tide.
7. Sunset at Uluwatu Temple
Finish at the cliff-top temple for sunset — and the kecak fire dance nearby if you like. Watch your sunglasses: the temple monkeys are famous thieves.
Practical tips
- Parking: usually IDR 2–5k per scooter at each beach, sometimes a small entry fee too.
- Stairs: many beaches have long staircases. Wear shoes, not flip-flops.
- Tides: some beaches shrink at high tide — check a tide app.
- Sun: there’s little shade on the road. Sunscreen, water and a hat.

Which scooter?
The Bukit is hilly and the roads down to beaches are steep. Solo, a Vario or Scoopy is fine; two people or surfboards, go for an NMAX or PCX. Ride down steep beach roads slowly with both brakes.

Safety
Swim only where it’s safe — Uluwatu has strong currents and reef. Don’t leave valuables on the bike, and take the key every time. After sunset, ride back slowly; the Bukit roads have potholes and little lighting in places.
