Bali Airport Car Rental: Pick Up at Arrivals, Pay When You Get the Keys

You land at Ngurah Rai after a long flight, clear immigration, collect your bags and walk out into the warm, slightly chaotic arrivals area. Taxi touts start calling. If you’ve pre-booked a rental car to be delivered to the airport, you can skip all of that — find your driver, check the car, pay, and go. Here’s how it works.
How airport delivery works
- Book a car in the SiapPergi car catalogue (our sister site) and choose Ngurah Rai Airport as the delivery address.
- Share your flight number and landing time on WhatsApp so the driver can track delays.
- After you clear customs, message the admin. The driver meets you at arrivals or in the airport car park.
- Check the car, pay in full by bank transfer or e-wallet — no deposit up front — and drive off.
At the end of your trip, the car can be collected at the airport too, so you drive straight to departures.
Late-night arrivals
Lots of flights from Australia, Europe and the Middle East land late at night. Driving an unfamiliar car on the left, in the dark, after 15 hours of travel, isn’t ideal. Options:
- Book an airport transfer with a driver for the first night, then have the self-drive car delivered to your villa the next morning.
- Or have the car delivered at the airport but stay somewhere close (Kuta, Tuban, Jimbaran) for the first night.
Our Bali airport transport guide compares taxis, Grab, shuttles and transfers.
Self-drive or with driver from the airport?
| Destination | Drive time (typical) | Our tip |
|---|---|---|
| Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran | 15–40 min | Self-drive is easy |
| Seminyak, Canggu | 45–90 min | Self-drive OK outside rush hour |
| Nusa Dua, Uluwatu | 30–60 min | Take the Bali Mandara toll road |
| Ubud | 1.5–2 h | Driver recommended if you land late |
| Amed, Lovina | 3–4 h | Driver strongly recommended |
Times vary a lot with traffic; avoid 4–7 pm around the airport and Simpang Siur if you can.
Which car for airport pick-up?
- Two people, light luggage: a Brio or Agya.
- Family with suitcases: an Avanza or Xpander with the third row folded.
- Group with surfboards: an Innova or HiAce with a driver.
Documents to have ready
- Home driving licence and International Driving Permit (for self-drive) — see IDP for Bali.
- Passport (shown, not kept).
- A working phone with WhatsApp — the airport has free Wi-Fi, and SIM/eSIM stalls in arrivals.
- Money for the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150k per foreign visitor) if you haven’t paid online.
Prices
Airport delivery is priced like any other delivery — self-drive cars in the SiapPergi catalogue start at around IDR 310k a day at the time of writing, with a two-day minimum. Market ranges for every model are in car rental Bali price per day. Airport transfers with a driver are quoted by the admin for your destination.
