Tanah Lot by Scooter: Route From Canggu & Seminyak, Sunset Tips

Tanah Lot, the temple perched on a rock in the sea, is one of Bali’s most famous sunset spots — and one of the easiest scenic rides from Canggu. Here’s how to get there and enjoy it without the stress.
Riding times
- Canggu / Pererenan: about 30–45 minutes.
- Seminyak / Kerobokan: about 45–60 minutes.
- Ubud: about 1.5 hours — better as part of a longer day.
The route
From Canggu, head north-west through Pererenan and the rice-field lanes towards Kediri, then follow the signs to Tanah Lot. It’s one of the prettiest easy rides in South Bali — quiet lanes, green fields and village temples. Google Maps works well; download offline maps just in case.

When to arrive
For sunset, arrive about an hour before. You’ll have time to walk the cliff paths, see the temple at low tide and find a spot at a café before the crowds peak. Morning visits are much quieter if you prefer photos without people.
Entry and parking
There’s an entry ticket per person and a parking fee for scooters, paid at the gate. Keep your ticket. Park in the official area and take your helmet and valuables with you, or lock them under the seat.
What to wear
Tanah Lot is an active temple. Cover your shoulders and knees if you plan to approach the temple area; sarongs are often available. Shoes with grip help on wet rocks at low tide.
Combine it with
- Batu Bolong temple, a smaller rock temple a short walk away.
- Jatiluwih rice terraces earlier in the day — see best scooter rides.
- A café in Pererenan on the way back.

Riding back
Everyone leaves at the same time after sunset, so the road out is busy. Wait 20–30 minutes for the rush to clear, then ride back slowly with your lights on. The lanes through the rice fields are dark — stick to the main road if you’re unsure. See riding at night in Bali.
