Car Parking in Bali: Fees, Attendants & Tips for Rental Drivers

Parking is one of the things that surprises first-time drivers in Bali. Spaces are tight, rules are often unwritten, and a man in an orange vest appears out of nowhere to wave you into a gap. Here’s how it works.
Parking attendants (tukang parkir)
At shops, beaches, cafés, temples and restaurants, there’s usually a parking attendant — sometimes in a vest, sometimes not. They guide you in and out of the space, help with traffic when you leave, and collect a small fee.
- Typical fee: around IDR 5–10k for a car (IDR 2–5k for a scooter).
- Pay when you leave. Keep small notes handy.
- Some official car parks give a printed ticket.
Malls, hotels and big attractions
Larger places use barrier systems: take a ticket on entry and pay by time on exit, often by e-money card or cash. Many hotels offer free parking for guests.

Signs to know
- A “P” with a line through it — no parking.
- An “S” with a line through it — no stopping.
- Yellow-painted kerbs and blocked driveways — don’t park there.
Parking in the wrong place can earn a fine or a clamp, especially in Denpasar and busy areas.
Area tips
Canggu
Narrow lanes, few spaces and lots of scooters. Many villas are down lanes a car can’t enter. Check with your host before you rent a car, and use the car parks of beach clubs and big cafés. See car rental Canggu.
Seminyak and Kuta
Street parking is limited in the evening. Use mall or restaurant parking. See car rental Seminyak & Kuta.
Ubud
The centre is tight, with one-way loops. Park at the edge or in paid areas and walk in. See car rental Ubud.
Uluwatu and beaches
Beach car parks fill at sunset. Arrive early. See car rental Uluwatu & Jimbaran.
Security
- Don’t leave bags, phones or laptops visible inside the car.
- Lock the car and fold the mirrors in tight spaces.
- Photograph where you parked in big car parks.
Avoiding scrapes
Most small rental-car damage happens in tight parking. Take your time, let the attendant guide you, and use mirrors and the reversing camera if the car has one. If something does happen, see Bali car rental insurance.
