Bali Waterfalls by Scooter: Best Falls, Routes & Riding Times

Waterfall-hopping is one of the best reasons to rent a scooter in Bali. Most falls sit down narrow village lanes that tour buses can’t reach, and with your own bike you can get there early, before the crowds. Here are our favourites, grouped so you can plan a day.
Near Ubud (half day)
Tegenungan
About 20–30 minutes south of Ubud. Big, powerful and easy to reach — which also makes it busy. Go early.
Tibumana and Kanto Lampo
East of Ubud near Gianyar, 20–40 minutes away. Tibumana is a pretty jungle fall with a short walk; Kanto Lampo has a stepped rock face that’s great for photos. Easy to combine.
Tukad Cepung
About 45–60 minutes north-east of Ubud near Bangli. The waterfall falls inside a rocky cave, with beams of light on sunny mornings. Expect steps and wet rocks.
North Bali (full day)
Sekumpul
Often called Bali’s most beautiful waterfall — a cluster of tall falls in a deep green valley. It’s about 2.5 hours from Ubud and involves many steps down and back up. Local guides are available at the entrance.
Munduk area
Munduk, Melanting and Banyumala are surrounded by clove and coffee plantations. Combine with the Bedugul lakes. Better still, stay a night in Munduk and explore in daylight.

Suggested loops
- Ubud half day: Tegenungan → Tibumana → Kanto Lampo → back to Ubud.
- Ubud to Bangli: Tukad Cepung → Penglipuran village → Kintamani viewpoint.
- North Bali day: Bedugul → Banyumala → Munduk falls (and stay the night).

Practical tips
- Entry tickets are usually a small fee per person, plus scooter parking of a few thousand rupiah.
- Shoes with grip — steps and rocks are slippery, especially in the wet season.
- Go early: better light, fewer people, cooler for the stairs.
- Swimming: only where it’s clearly allowed, and never after heavy rain — water levels rise fast.
- Valuables: carry them with you; don’t leave bags on the bike.
Safety on the road
Waterfall lanes are narrow, often steep and sometimes gravelly. Ride slowly downhill and use both brakes. In the north, fog rolls in during the afternoon — be off the mountain roads before dark. See Bali scooter safety tips.
