12 Bali Scooter Safety Tips for First-Time Riders
Before you ride
- Check front & rear brakes, lights, horn and tyre pressure.
- Photograph every side of the bike and send it to the rental on WhatsApp.
- Wear a helmet that fits, with the strap fastened.
- Save the rental’s WhatsApp number for flat tyres or emergencies.
On the road
- Keep left, and expect scooters to overtake on both sides.
- Safe speed in busy areas: 30–40 km/h.
- Watch for sand on corners near beaches.
- In heavy rain, pull over and wait — Bali roads flood quickly.
- Don’t ride two-up on a 110cc scooter up steep hills.
- Temple ceremonies can close roads; follow the local guards (pecalang).
After riding
- Lock the steering and use official parking.
- Never leave bags on the front footboard.
