Bali Scooter Rental Insurance: What’s Covered and What Isn’t

Before you ride, know who pays if the bike is damaged, stolen or you get hurt.
Is the scooter insured?
Most small Bali rentals do not include insurance for the renter. Damage caused by the renter is usually charged directly from the workshop bill. Ask, and get the answer in writing.
What may be offered
A paid damage waiver that caps your liability for minor damage (read the exclusions — lost keys, drunk riding), theft cover at larger rentals with a deductible, and Indonesia’s Jasa Raharja accident compensation for victims, which is not a substitute for health or vehicle cover.
Travel insurance conditions
Many policies only cover scooter accidents if you hold a valid motorcycle licence (home licence + IDP), both riders wear helmets, you are not under the influence and the bike is within the policy’s engine-size limit. Read your policy — private hospital bills can be large. See licence requirements.
Limit your risk
Choose a bike you can handle (beginners), document its condition (checklist), lock the steering and use proper parking, agree liability in writing, and follow our accident steps.
