Monthly Scooter Rental Bali 2026: Prices, Areas & Tips

Updated

If you are staying in Bali for more than a couple of weeks, a monthly scooter rental is almost always the smartest money you will spend. A daily rate of Rp 80,000 sounds cheap, but over 30 days it adds up to Rp 2.4 million. On a monthly package the same bike often costs Rp 1.3–1.8 million. The difference covers a month of fuel and then some.

This guide covers everything about long term scooter rental in Bali in 2026: typical monthly prices per model, the best areas to base yourself, what should be included, who pays for servicing, what to put in the agreement and how to negotiate politely.

Why monthly rentals are so much cheaper

For a rental owner, a bike rented for a full month is guaranteed income with no delivery runs every few days, no cleaning and re-checking between customers and no idle bikes in low season. That is why almost every rental offers a big discount for long stays. As a rule of thumb, weekly rentals are 15–25% cheaper per day than daily rates and monthly rentals can be 40–50% cheaper. See the full breakdown in our Bali scooter rental prices guide.

Monthly scooter rental prices in Bali (2026)

ModelDailyMonthlyBest for
Honda ScoopyRp 70–100kRp 1.3–1.8MSolo riders, town use
Yamaha FazzioRp 80–120kRp 1.5–2.0MDigital nomads, fuel economy
Honda Vario 125/160Rp 80–120kRp 1.5–2.2MTwo-up, hills
Yamaha NMAX 155Rp 120–180kRp 2.3–3.2MLong rides, couples

XMAX 250 / KLXRp 250–400kRp 4.5–7MTouring, off-road, experienced

For most long-stayers a Scoopy, Fazzio or Vario is plenty. They are economical, easy to park in narrow lanes and parts are available everywhere. An NMAX or PCX makes sense if you ride two-up a lot, regularly cross the island or live somewhere hilly.

Best areas for a monthly rental

Canggu, Berawa and Pererenan

Bali's digital nomad hub, so monthly packages are standard. Scoopys start around Rp 70,000 per day and many rentals quote a 30-day price without being asked. Traffic on Batu Bolong and the shortcut is heavy, so a small, nimble scooter wins. Browse scooter rental in Canggu.

Ubud

Yoga students, artists and remote workers fill Ubud for months at a time. Climbs towards Tegallalang, Payangan and Kintamani make a Vario or NMAX more comfortable. See scooter rental in Ubud.

Sanur

Calmer, flatter and popular with families and retirees. A Scoopy or Fazzio is ideal. See scooter rental in Sanur.

Kuta, Legian and Denpasar

The cheapest part of Bali, from around Rp 60,000 per day, with fierce competition that pushes monthly rates down too.

Uluwatu and the Bukit

Surfers staying a month in Bingin or Padang Padang usually want a surf rack. Prices start around Rp 75,000 per day and the hills favour a Vario. See scooter rental in Uluwatu.

What a monthly price should include

  • Two decent helmets, ideally SNI-certified.
  • A raincoat, which matters from roughly November to March.
  • The original STNK (registration) or a certified copy, with road tax paid.
  • Free delivery and pick-up within the same area.
  • Routine servicing and oil changes during the rental.
  • A replacement bike if there is a mechanical failure that is not your fault.
  • Optional extras: surf rack, phone holder or top box.

Fuel is on you. With Pertalite at Rp 10,000 per litre (October 2026) and scooters doing 40–50 km per litre, typical South Bali use costs Rp 150–300k a month. More in our Bali fuel guide.

Servicing and oil changes

Automatic scooters need an oil change every 2,000–3,000 km, which for an active rider can mean once a month. Good rentals collect the bike or change the oil at your villa at no extra cost. Agree up front on who pays for oil and servicing (the rental should), who pays for punctures (usually you, around Rp 15–25k for a patch) versus worn tyres (the rental), how quickly they respond to a breakdown and whether a replacement bike is provided.

What to put in the rental agreement

Many monthly rentals run on a WhatsApp chat, but a one-page written agreement protects both sides. Include:

  • Plate number, model, year, colour and starting odometer reading.
  • Rental period, price and the rate for extensions.
  • Deposit amount, form (cash, never your original passport) and refund date. See our scooter deposit guide.
  • Responsibility for scratches, broken mirrors, theft and accidents. Read what to do after a scooter accident or damage.
  • Early return terms and any no-go zones such as Nusa Penida.

Before you ride off, film a slow walk-around of the bike including tyres, underside and dashboard, and send it to the owner on WhatsApp so it is time-stamped.

Monthly rentals for digital nomads and foreigners

Foreign riders need their home motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit with category A. In 2023 Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced an intention to stop foreign tourists renting motorbikes. As of 2026 there is no island-wide ban in force, but rules can change, so rent from a registered business and check the latest news. Details are in our licence requirements guide and police checkpoint and fines guide. Riding without a licence can mean a fine of up to Rp 1,000,000 and your travel insurance may refuse an unlicensed accident claim.

How to negotiate a monthly price

  1. Ask for the 30-day price, not the daily rate. Many rentals do not advertise it.
  2. Compare at least three rentals in the same area and share the best quote honestly.
  3. Offer to pay the full month upfront, which often unlocks Rp 100–200k off.
  4. Accept a well-kept bike that is two or three years old instead of a brand-new one.
  5. Arrive in low season. July–August and December–January leave little room to bargain.
  6. Commit longer. Two or three months together almost always lowers the monthly rate.

Do not squeeze a price below what is realistic. A rental forced to go too low cuts corners on helmets, tyres and brakes, and you will be riding that bike every day. Our Bali scooter safety tips explain what to check.

Monthly rental vs buying a used scooter

People staying three to six months sometimes consider buying. For foreigners, registering a vehicle and reselling it before leaving is usually a hassle. Renting avoids tax, servicing costs and resale risk, and you get a replacement if something breaks. Need four wheels for a family? Ask about monthly car rental in Bali too.

Handover checklist

  • Both brakes bite firmly and quietly.
  • Tyres have tread and no bulges.
  • Headlight, brake light and indicators all work.
  • Horn works, mirrors are tight.
  • STNK matches the plate and tax is valid.
  • Helmets fit and the straps close properly.
