Renting a Scooter in Bali with an Indonesian ID (KTP): Guide for Domestic Travellers

Indonesian visitors renting a scooter in Bali need their KTP and a valid SIM C; many rentals also ask for a deposit.
ID card held or cash deposit?
Some rentals offer a choice: leave your original KTP for the rental period, or pay a cash deposit (usually IDR 500k–1M). A recorded cash deposit is safer if you need your ID for hotel check-in or flights. See deposits.
Out-of-province IDs, students and groups
Out-of-Bali IDs are routine. What matters is clear information: accommodation address, dates and a reachable WhatsApp. For campus or school groups, every rider needs their own SIM C, one coordinator should handle the list and deposits, and the law allows only one passenger per motorbike. See group rentals.
Avoid being turned away
Send KTP and SIM C photos with your enquiry, give exact dates and address, explain long rentals, and inspect the bike at handover with our checklist.
