Best Scooter Rental in Bali (2026): How to Spot a Great One in 5 Minutes

Type “best scooter rental in Bali” into Google and you get hundreds of rentals all claiming to be number one. The truth is there isn’t one best shop for the whole island — there are good rentals and bad rentals in every area, and the good ones all behave the same way. This guide shows you exactly what that looks like, so you can judge any rental in Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud or Uluwatu in about five minutes.
What “best” actually means for a Bali scooter rental
Most travellers judge a rental on price alone. That’s how you end up with a bald-tyred Scoopy, a helmet that cracks if you look at it, and a “damage” bill on the last day. A great rental gets these five things right:
- The bike. Ideally under three years old, serviced, with brakes that bite and tyres with visible tread.
- The helmets. Two proper helmets with chin straps that click — not the thin “construction hats” some shops hand out.
- The price. One fixed number in writing: daily rate, delivery, deposit (if any) and return time.
- The handover. They deliver to your hotel or villa, let you check the bike and only take payment once you’re happy.
- The backup. A WhatsApp number that answers when you get a flat tyre in the rain at 6 pm.
Green flags: signs you found a good rental
- Clear photos of the actual bikes, not stock images from Honda’s website.
- Prices published upfront — daily, weekly and monthly — rather than “DM for price”.
- Pay on delivery. No transfer to a stranger before you’ve seen the bike. See scooter rental pay on delivery.
- No passport retention. A photo of your passport is normal; keeping the original isn’t. More in deposits and passports.
- Raincoat included and a phone holder on request.
- They ask about your licence. A rental that reminds you about the International Driving Permit cares about your trip, not just your money.
- A replacement policy. “If it breaks down, we bring another bike” — said before you pay.

Red flags: walk away if you see these
- They want the full amount by bank transfer before delivery, and the account name doesn’t match the business.
- They insist on keeping your passport.
- No written price — “we sort it out later”.
- The bike has no STNK (registration paper) under the seat, or the plate doesn’t match it.
- Bald tyres, a soft back brake, or a dashboard full of warning lights.
- They refuse to let you film the bike before you ride off.
These are the classic setups for the scams we describe in Bali scooter rental scams.
Fair prices in 2026
A good rental isn’t necessarily the cheapest one, but it shouldn’t be wildly more expensive either. Typical daily rates: Honda Scoopy or Beat from about IDR 70–100k, Vario or Fazzio IDR 80–120k, NMAX IDR 120–180k and PCX IDR 130–200k. Weekly and monthly rentals are much cheaper per day — the full table is below and in our Bali scooter rental prices guide.
Which bike should you ask for?
For one person pottering around Canggu or Sanur, a Scoopy or Fazzio is perfect. Two people, longer rides or hills (Uluwatu, Kintamani, Bedugul)? Go for a NMAX or PCX — bigger wheels, more power, more comfortable seat. Our best scooter to rent in Bali comparison goes deeper.
Shop on the street, booking online or an app?
Street shops are great if you can walk in, see the bikes and talk to the owner. Booking online saves time and means the bike is waiting for you when you arrive — just make sure it’s a rental you can pay on arrival. Big booking apps add convenience but often add fees and remove the direct contact you need when something goes wrong. We compare all three in Bali scooter rental apps vs booking direct.
The 5-minute test before you pay
When the bike arrives: squeeze both brakes hard, look at both tyres, switch on lights and indicators, try the horn, check the STNK is under the seat, and film a slow 360° walk-around showing existing scratches. Send the video to the rental on WhatsApp so it’s timestamped. That’s it — our full 15-point inspection checklist covers the details.

If you want all of the above without the research, the SiapPergi scooter catalogue (our sister site, same team) lists Scoopy, Fazzio, Vario, NMAX, PCX, Vespa and XMAX with fixed prices, two helmets and a raincoat, delivered to your hotel or villa. No deposit up front — you check the bike and then pay. Or browse by area: Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Uluwatu.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best scooter rental in Bali?
There is no single best shop for the whole island. The best rentals in every area share the same traits: newer bikes, two proper helmets, a fixed written price, delivery to your villa, pay on arrival and a replacement bike if yours breaks down.
How much should a scooter rental in Bali cost per day?
In {year}, roughly IDR 70–100k for a Scoopy or Beat, IDR 80–120k for a Vario or Fazzio and IDR 120–200k for an NMAX or PCX. Weekly and monthly rates are much cheaper per day.
Should I pay for a Bali scooter rental in advance?
It is safer not to. Choose a rental that lets you pay on delivery, after you have checked the bike.
Is it normal to leave my passport with a scooter rental?
No. A photo of your passport is normal; handing over the original is not, and you need it for hotels, police checks and your flight home.
