Bali Airport Scooter Rental: Pick Up at Ngurah Rai (DPS)

Landing in Bali and riding straight from the airport sounds like the perfect start. Sometimes it is. Sometimes, after a 20-hour journey with a big suitcase, it really isn’t. Here’s how airport scooter pick-up at Ngurah Rai (DPS) works, and when to choose hotel delivery instead.

How airport pick-up works

  1. Book in advance and send the rental your flight number and arrival time on WhatsApp.
  2. Clear immigration and customs and pay the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150k per person) if you haven’t paid it online.
  3. Meet the rental at the agreed point — usually the parking area outside international arrivals rather than the kerb, where scooters can’t wait.
  4. Check the bike: brakes, tyres, lights, STNK under the seat, two helmets, and film a quick walk-around.
  5. Pay and ride. With pay-on-delivery rentals, you pay only now — no deposit up front.

The luggage problem

A scooter has room for one small backpack between your feet and a day bag on your back. A 23 kg suitcase does not fit — and riding with one on your lap is dangerous. Options:

  • Travel light — cabin bag only, and the airport pick-up works well.
  • Send your luggage by car. Take a Grab or transfer with your bags and have the scooter delivered to your hotel instead.
  • Two people, two bags? Get a car for day one. See Bali airport car rental.

Arriving at night or after a long-haul flight

Many flights land late in the evening. Riding unfamiliar, left-hand traffic in the dark while jet-lagged is not a great idea. The smarter plan: a transfer or Grab to your hotel and the scooter delivered the next morning. If you really do need it at night, see 24-hour scooter rental.

Routes from the airport

  • Kuta and Legian: 15–20 minutes — easy first ride.
  • Seminyak: 20–40 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Canggu: 45–75 minutes through heavy traffic — tough as a first ride.
  • Jimbaran / Uluwatu: 20–50 minutes via the bypass.
  • Sanur: 25–40 minutes via the bypass; the Bali Mandara toll road has a motorbike lane.
  • Ubud: 1.5 hours or more — better by car on arrival day.

Prices

Airport pick-up usually costs the same daily rate as normal — Scoopy or Beat from about IDR 70–100k a day, NMAX from about IDR 120k. Some rentals add a small airport delivery fee; others include it for weekly rentals. See Bali scooter rental prices.

Returning at the end of your trip

You can arrange to hand the bike back at the departures parking area — leave plenty of time — or, simpler, have it collected from your last hotel and take a car to the airport with your luggage.

Paperwork

Bring your home motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle category. Police checkpoints are common on the roads around the airport. See licence requirements.

Around 45–75 minutes depending on traffic. Kuta takes 15–20 minutes, Seminyak 20–40.
