The Bali Mandara toll road is a long bridge-and-causeway road over the water of Benoa Bay, linking the airport area, Nusa Dua and Benoa near Sanur. It’s often the fastest way between South Bali’s main hubs — and one of the few toll roads in the world with a lane for scooters.
The route
The toll road has three main entry points:
- Ngurah Rai — near the airport.
- Nusa Dua — the resort area and the Bukit.
- Benoa — towards Sanur and Denpasar.
It’s about 12 km in total, and it lets you skip the busiest parts of the bypass.
Scooters welcome
Unusually, the Bali Mandara toll road has a separate, dedicated lane for motorbikes, so you can ride it on a rental scooter. It’s a scenic ride over the water — just keep to the motorbike lane and don’t stop on the bridge for photos.
How to pay: cashless only
Indonesian toll roads are cashless. You pay by tapping a prepaid e-money card at the gate — such as Mandiri e-money, BCA Flazz, BRI Brizzi or BNI TapCash. Cash is not accepted at the gate.
- Buy and top up a card at minimarkets (Indomaret, Alfamart) or bank branches.
- Rental cars sometimes come with a card — ask, and check the balance.
- With a car and driver, the driver handles it.
How much is the toll?
The toll is small: a few thousand rupiah for motorbikes and roughly IDR 10–20k for cars, depending on the class and the exit. Rates change occasionally, so keep a little extra on your card.
When it saves time
- Airport ↔ Nusa Dua — usually much faster than the bypass.
- Sanur ↔ Nusa Dua or the airport — avoids the bypass jams.
- Rush hour — the biggest time savings.

Tips
- Have your card ready before the gate — reaching for it holds up the queue.
- Check your balance; if it’s too low, the gate won’t open.
- Strong crosswinds on the bridge can push scooters — hold the bars firmly.
- Keep left, overtake right, and watch your speed.
