Village roads are narrow — give a short horn tap on blind bends and make way for farmers' pick-ups.
Mount Agung is clearest in the morning; leave before 8am for the best photos.

Renting a scooter in Sidemen: what to know

Sidemen lies in Karangasem regency, about 25 minutes north of Klungkung town. The valley is a patchwork of terraced rice fields, salak orchards and traditional houses, with Mount Agung rising behind. Visitors come to stay in rice-field villas, walk the paddies and learn about weaving. Villages are spread out and public transport is almost non-existent, so scooter rental in Sidemen is the best way to enjoy the area.

In Sidemen you can walk along the rice terraces, watch ikat and songket weaving in local homes, and stop at coffee warungs overlooking the valley. Pura Besakih, Bali's largest temple, is about 30–40 minutes away by scooter, and Bukit Jambul offers a viewpoint over rice fields and the sea on the road towards Rendang.

Valley roads are narrow, twisty and have short, steep climbs — especially the Iseh road and the lanes up to hillside villas. With a passenger we recommend a Vario 160, NMAX or ADV 160. Watch for sand and gravel on bends, particularly after rain.

From South Bali, the usual route follows the Ida Bagus Mantra bypass to Klungkung, then heads north to Sidemen. Allow 1.5–2 hours from the airport and about an hour from Ubud. Sidemen combines easily with other East Bali stops — see our Bali scooter road trip itinerary.

Scooter rental in Sidemen starts at around IDR 75k per day. Local options are limited, usually through villas or homestays. Many guests rent in Ubud or South Bali and ride over, or ask for a bike to be delivered through the SiapPergi catalogue.
