Renting a scooter in Tulamben: what to know

Tulamben lies in Kubu district, Karangasem, on the coast road between Amed and Singaraja. Divers know it for the USAT Liberty, a wreck lying close enough to shore to reach straight from the pebble beach. Many travellers stay several days to dive, then explore East Bali. Scooter rental in Tulamben makes it easy to reach other dive sites, warungs and nearby villages.

Besides the USAT Liberty, Coral Garden and the Drop Off (a coral wall) are popular for snorkelling and diving. To the west, Les village has the Yeh Mampeh waterfall and traditional salt-making, while to the south Amed offers calm little bays. Mount Agung is clearly visible from the coast on clear mornings.

The coast road through Tulamben is fairly flat, but the ride to Amed has climbs and sharp bends. Solo, a 110–125cc automatic is enough; two-up towards Amed and Lempuyang, choose a Vario 160 or NMAX. Never carry tanks or large dive bags on the bike.

From the airport, Tulamben is about 2.5–3 hours via Candidasa and Amlapura, or via Kintamani and Kubu. Many guests take a car with their luggage and have the scooter delivered to their accommodation — see scooter delivery to hotels and villas.
